The awards season (year round, really) continued on Thursday, May 27, with the return of the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Hosted by Usher (who hopefully didn’t get paid in Ush Bucks), the ceremony was broadcast live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. After last year’s broadcast was canceled due to the pandemic, the music awards show returned with a very 2021 category – for the first time there were six contenders for the TikTok Bop of the Year, awarded based on fan votes.
Fresh off his big BBMA wins, The Weeknd led the iHeartRadio nominees with eight nods and won three, including Song of the Year and Male Artist of the Year, for the most awards. of the evening tied with BTS. He was closely followed by Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Rich, who received seven nominations each. The show featured several performances (in front of a masked audience, indoor and in real life!), Including The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s debut of their âSave Your Tearsâ remix (and the debut of her alliance), Silk Sonic, Dan + Shay and Doja Cat (with aliens). Demi Lovato, Brandi Carlile and HER also took the stage with a musical tribute to Elton John, who this year received the iHeartRadio Icon Award. Check out the full list of the night’s winners below:
