CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Officials of the Cooper River Bridge Run announced the winning design for the 46th annual 10k event on Tuesday night.
The winning artwork was designed by Lowcountry artist Marcus Cripps.
“We are very excited about the outstanding artwork we have received from Marcus Cripps,” said Cooper River Bridge Run Race Director Irv Batten. “It really conveys the excitement and energy felt by everyone who attends our race.”
Cripps’ artwork will be featured on all t-shirts, posters and marketing materials from the 2023 event for the nation’s third largest 10K.
“CRBR has such a fun spirit in the Lowcountry, something I tried to capture in my design. This contest was a fun way to unite my passion for art and fitness,” Cripps said. It was an experience and a memory that I will never forget!”
He also received a cash prize of $1,000.
Cripps said he fell in love with the fitness community when he signed a job for Locomotion Fitness at Park Circle in 2020. He experienced his first run on the Cooper River Bridge in 2021 and said that he knew he wanted to be a part of it for many years to come.
He has set a goal to compete in as many fitness events and collect as many medals as possible in a year, starting with the 2022 Cooper River Bridge Run in April. Since then, he has competed in multiple weightlifting competitions, CrossFit competitions, Spartan Races, and 5K, 10K, and half marathon events across the Carolinas.
The design competition is an annual tradition that encourages artists from across the country to submit their works for consideration. This year’s competition featured creations from artists of all ages and regions. A piece created by John Reese was chosen as this year’s ‘People’s Choice’ winner and ranked among the top 10 judges. The winning artwork will hang in the office of the Cooper River Bridge Run alongside past winners.
The Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run & Family Festival takes place on October 2, 2022 and is free for everyone. Register at www.bridgerun.com.
