ATLANTA – As the Alabama No.1 beat No.14 Miami, 44-13, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday afternoon, he did not come out completely unscathed.
According to coach Nick Saban, Crimson Tide senior linebacker Christopher Allen suffered a “significant” foot injury that will likely end his season. The injury occurred on Allen’s sack and a forced fumble on Hurricanes quarterback D’Eriq King almost midway through the second quarter.
“Chris Allen has a pretty significant foot injury. And they will assess more,” Saban said after the game. “But it looks like he might not lose for the season.”
Allen finished with three total tackles, a loss tackle, a sack and a forced fumble. He led the Southeastern Conference in loss tackles and had six sacks a season ago.
“My boy is going to be back,” said defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis. “We’re going to be good.”
Sophomore Drew Sanders took his place, who recorded six total tackles in the 31-point win. Sanders was a five-star prospect in the recruiting class of 2020.
“Drew is a good player,” said Saban. “And we ran these three guys, you know, throughout camp and throughout the spring as starters. Chris Allen is a fantastic player, however, and a very good pass hunter. And it was a real luxury to have him and Will [Anderson] on the edges as outer supports.
“But we have confidence in Drew and, you know, we have a few other young players who are going to have to do that – Dallas Turner – and some of the younger players that we have are going to have the opportunity to play in this role now, too. “
Tennessee transfer linebacker Henry To’o To’o injured his right elbow in the third quarter and was forced to watch the game recall from the sideline, while wearing a brace.
Saban added that To’o To’o would “agree”. In his Alabama debut, he was second on the Crimson Tide in tackles with seven total saves.
Senior defensive end LaBryan Ray, second-year offensive lineman Damieon George Jr, junior defensive back DeMarcco Hellams all dressed up and had pre-game warm-ups, but saw no action.
“I don’t think anyone else has suffered a significant injury,” Saban said. “There are guys who have been beaten up, guys who have cramps. We have guys who need IVs. But I don’t think we have anyone else that’s serious in terms of their injury. long term. Hope we get some guys back. Damieon George, an offensive lineman. Hopefully Labryan Ray can come back. I think Demarcco Hellams can come back.
“So I think we hope to get some guys back. But they got dressed today, but they couldn’t play. They weren’t ready to play. And I hope they will be ready. In fact, they warmed up and did the pre-game warm-up. But it was on purpose that we wouldn’t play them today. And I hope they’ll be ready for next week. “
