Originally from Bangladesh and now living in Seattle, USA, illustrator and author Fahmida Azim was named to Pulitzer’s winning team for Illustrated Reporting and Commentary for her work in Insider.

Besides Fahmida, the winning team includes Anthony Del Col, Josh Adams and Walt Hickey of Insider in New York, according to the Pulitzer Prize website.

They were awarded for “using graphic reporting and the medium of comics to tell a powerful yet intimate story of Chinese oppression of the Uyghurs, making the issue accessible to a wider audience.”

Their report “How I escaped a Chinese internment camp” was published on December 28, 2021 on Insider.

Fahmida is an illustrator and storyteller and her work centers around themes of identity, culture and self-reliance.

She and her art have been seen in The New York Times, NPR, Glamour, Scientific American, The Intercept, Vice, and more. Originally from Bangladesh, Fahmida now lives and works in Seattle, Washington, reads Fahmida’s short biography posted on the Pulitzer Prize website.
