Best 4K Sci-Fi Movies To Own

0

With more and more movies getting 4K Blu-ray transfers, here are some of the best sci-fi movies to test your setup.

With 4K becoming more and more common for the average moviegoer, most versions come with a 4K Blu-ray version. It’s satisfying to watch a beautiful movie for the first time on a 4K screen, and science fiction tends to be one of the best 4K viewing experiences. And so, here are five great 4K sci-fi movies to test out your home movie setup.

Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is a stunning 4K experience

Christopher Nolan has always been the type to make his films a spectacle, and the 2014s Interstellar is no exception. The beautiful, expansive shots of space are quite stunning in standard HD, but 4K tends to excel with deep blacks, so this movie clearly shows that. But it’s not just the outer reaches of space that are beautiful, as every planet, including Earth, has a rich vibrancy and crispness that contrasts with the darkness of space.

However, a small downside is that the sound mix doesn’t use the typical Dolby Atmos 7.1, but it still sounds great on a surround sound setup.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League looks great in 4K

Earlier this year, Zack Snyder was finally able to release his original, original take on Justice League. When Joss Whedon took the reins of the theatrical release in 2017, the film was clearly a lot brighter than Snyder had initially expected, as many shots looked weird with oversaturated colors. But with Snyder’s recent release, the film presents a beautifully dark and gritty sharpness. And the 4: 3 aspect ratio only completes the look, as the focus is always drawn to the central detail of the screen.

The 4K Blu-ray also comes with a black and white version of the film, which while not recommended for the first time, definitely provides a unique viewing experience.

Blade Runner 2049’s 4K perfection cannot be reproduced

Blade Runner 2094 is arguably one of the most beautiful films of this decade, if not one of the best films of the period. Roger Deakins cinematography, with the beautiful neon lights and dark skies, is an incredible viewing experience. It’s pretty much the perfect movie to test out a 4K TV or projector with, like Blade runner is packed with rich, vibrant colors, as well as deep blacks and grays. And after watching the movie in 4K, it’s like an insult to watch it any other way.

Avengers: Infinity War slams the competition 4K

Thanos shows off his glove

Honestly, most of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are great to watch in 4K. However, Avengers: Infinity War is one of the best for showing a variety of locations and interesting visuals. With so many different planets visited, Infinity war does a great job of displaying a mix of varied colors and tones. And the incredible details on Thanos are truly shown in 4K, with the fight scene on Titan being particularly breathtaking.

While Infinity war is a good 4K choice, if you consider yourself a die-hard MCU fan, you can go for Marvel’s The Infinity Saga Collector’s Edition – if you can find one. The set includes 23 Marvel movies in 4K, for the hefty price of $ 549.

2001: A Space Odyssey’s 4K transfer looks even better

2001: A corridor in the Space Odyssey

By far the oldest film on this list, 2001: A Space Odyssey recently received a wonderful 4K transfer. This Stanley Kubrick classic was transferred to 4K by scanning the original 65mm film, meaning that no detail has been lost and is as crisp as it gets. A little like Interstellar, the deep blacks of space look more beautiful than ever in 4K, and the incredible details of the spaceships and the moon make it look like the movie could have been released today, while still retaining its traditional cinematic charm.

If you’ve never experienced this 1968 sci-fi classic, this is the best way to do it.
