ATHENS – The Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University is offering a new course focused on music marketing and operational strategies for record labels and distribution outlets this spring semester.

The course will be co-taught by Amaechi Uzoigwe, manager of Grammy-nominated hip hop duo Run the Jewels, and associate professor and director of the School of Media Arts and Studies Josh Antonuccio.

“I am honored and honored to join Professor Josh Antonuccio as a visiting industry professional next semester for his excellent course in the music business at Ohio University,” Uzoigwe said. “Being able to share my knowledge, my experience and my ideas with music professionals and aspiring artists is a small way to reward the community which has been so rewarding to me.”

Uzoigwe is the founding president of A2IM and is a professor at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

The course, MDIA 4903: Record Labels, Marketing and Distribution, will teach students about marketing and outreach on traditional and emerging music platforms, entrepreneurship and monetization strategies from a management, label and management perspective. the artist.

“Amaechi has been at the forefront of entrepreneurial management and his insight will prove crucial to students at Ohio University,” said Antonuccio. “Its ability to disseminate and integrate the Run the Jewels brand across multiple platforms and successful partnerships is truly remarkable. “

Antonuccio said the course was created to create direct pipelines to the music industry for OHIO students. Each semester, he invited speakers to his classes, in person and virtually. Being able to learn and work with an experienced industry professional for several weeks, while getting real-time feedback on project work, was the next logical step.

“It is imperative to get so many direct contributions from leaders and change agents in the music industry,” said Antonuccio. “The industry space is being reimagined in real time again, so having an active manager and contractor to provide instruction and feedback is an exclusive opportunity for Ohio University students. “

Throughout the semester, students will create marketing plans and active strategies for album releases in 2022 and assess new distribution models and artist engagement opportunities.

Uzoigwe has been involved with OHIO students at past events at Scripps College, including being one of the keynote speakers at this year’s Ohio University Music Industry Summit, where he joined Killer Mike and his fellow director Will Bronson for a conversation about running and growing the business. by Run the Jewels.
