In 2006, Disney partnered with Pixar and created a mega-throne for engaging and original content. With the latest movie, Light year, barely released, it’s rare for Disney and Pixar to have a flop on their hands. However, prior to the Pixar deal, Disney was still churning out heartwarming, eye-catching films that stole the hearts of many. The first being Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.
Now with 60 original movies (without Pixar’s help), Disney’s films separate themselves again and again from the rest. On Reddit, fans weighed in on the best original Disney movies of all time, ranging from Disney’s golden years (Baby, Pinochio, etc…) in modern times (Tangledfor example).

Spokker worshiped Fancyit is authenticity, writing, “Fancy is the purest animation in Disney’s animated canon. It’s like a collection of animated shorts from the best animators who ever lived. I feel like it’s overlooked because it’s ‘boring’, but it’s also the best way to appreciate everything this studio was capable of.”
The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
The Emperor’s New Groove is another underrated Disney original that has a large fan base on Reddit. The Emperor’s New Groove had hilarious quotes, a fun animation, and a new story of an emperor who turned into a llama. He then had to befriend a local to lead him to the woman who cursed him so he could turn human again.
Redditor Jackbo_Manhorse explained why The Emperor’s New Groove was one of their favorites. “The Emperor’s New Groove will always be the best in my opinion, because it is the most original, from the point of view of humor, of all the Disney films. They wrote, “Lilo & Stitch is the animated equivalent of The Shawshank Redemption Where Freedmen for me. It’s a movie where if you just start watching it, you have to see it to the end. Once you get past the opening space scenes, the movie unfolds without a dull moment. It’s also the only movie on this list that brings tears to my eyes.” The story of a little girl, her older sister, and their alien pet named Stich captivated audiences as they went through hardships. on the beautiful island of Hawaii.

After writing a list of their favorite movies, Moana was in first place. They explained, “I grew up watching older movies like The Little Mermaid, Robin Hood, The Sword and the Stone, Beauty and the Beastetc Maybe they were trailblazers, but the newer films definitely have more depth and compelling stories, not to mention diversity and representation.”
The Lion King (1994)
The Lion King doesn’t need much of an introduction as it’s one of Disney’s most successful films. It even became a live-action movie in 2019. The Lion Kingthe roots come from Hamlet and shared the story of a young lion destined to be king after his father was killed by his jealous uncle.
While XxMarvin1H2a3p4p5yxX named a plethora of original films that were their favorites, their explanation for The Lion King was one of the most compelling. “The musical sequences are breathtaking, the themes and the story are perfectly executed, Timon and Pumbaa are ranked as Disney’s best sidekicks, the scene where Simba meets Mufasa in his adult version is really intense and the score which was composed by Hans Zimmer is a masterpiece,” the Redditor explained.

Although Dumbo was a sentimental film, it’s one of Jakvader93’s favorites. “Hands down one of their most touching and emotional films, this film was the one that decided to cut corners in terms of animation technique and really dig deep into the meat and potatoes of what is important, the bond of a mother and her child.”
In a city where there are no humans and only animals, zootopia shared a fun and unique story of a fictional world. Judy Hopps was an inspired bunny who got her dream job as a police officer. However, when the town of Zootopia turned dangerous, Judy teamed up with a cunning fox to solve her mission.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
The Hunchback of Notre Dame followed the inspiring story of Notre Dame bell ringer named Quasimodo. Due to a large bump on his back, Quasimodo felt comfortable in the steeple as he was not always wanted by the city.
Quasimodo suffered a lot in the film but overcame the diversity with the help of a gypsy named Esmeralda. Although it was a darker movie, ImNotAFan loved finding it better than all the other Disney animated movies. They wrote: “Hands down my favorite is The hunchback of Notre-Dame de Paris. It had the most emotionally impactful story and music as well as a truly creepy villain. As a bonus, the main character doesn’t get the girl (because he’s deformed, that’s still a bit uncertain). I love it when movies challenge the norm.”
