Elite 2022 CB Jaylon Guilbeau withdraws from Longhorns

The signing of Texas cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau was the first of the 2022 class for the Longhorns, committing to former head coach Tom Herman in September 2020.

Now, following the change in leadership from Austin to Steve Sarkisian, as well as a slew of visits throughout the summer, Guilbeau has reversed his decision, pulling out of the Longhorns on Wednesday night.

“I would like to start by thanking all of my friends, mentors, coaches and loved ones,” Guilbeau said in a statement. “But none of this would be possible without the Lord. After careful consideration with my family and countless hours of prayer, I have decided to reopen my recruiting and disengage from the University of Texas. Please respect my decision. Thank you #Hookem the coaching staff and the fans for everything. “

Before reopening his recruiting, Guilbeau had reached the point where he is recognized as one of the best defensive back recruits in the entire country and appeared to be a centerpiece of the class.

As a result, the Longhorns will now be looking to add another locking wedge to their impressive class.

School: Port Arthur Memorial (Texas)

Recruitment: Hired in Texas

Not as flashy as the others on the list, there is something to be said about consistency and production. From his stance of staying in sync and certainly shifting his weight and breaking down on football, Guilbeau is emerging as a cover man for the Texas Longhorns. He’s a good height, can run, plays soccer better than most, and finds soccer. Few of the turns we’ve evaluated in the class come out as comfortable as Guilbeau in men’s coverage, especially when pressed down the line of scrimmage.
