Florida Gators get DL Jamari Lyons entry

Viera High School Indoor Defensive Lineman Perspective Jamari Lyon gave his mother an exciting birthday present on Wednesday in announcing his commitment to the Florida Gators live on CBSSports HQ.

Lyon, who chose between Florida and South Carolina, gives UF its 15th engagement of the 2022 cycle and the first inside the defensive trenches.

In two seasons at the varsity level, the 6-foot-4, 295-pound athlete displayed impressive athleticism and disruption, recording 140 total tackles, 39 TFL, 19 sacks and seven forced fumbles.

Proving himself to be a promising passer throughout his high school career, Lyons drew comparisons to the Kansas City Chiefs lineman Chris Jones for his ability to use his length to blast holes along the offensive line with his initial stroke.

Announcing Florida as his leader in June, Lyons said his decision would depend on a trip to Columbia, South Carolina, September 24-26. AllGators learned at the end of July. However, his journey to soak up what the Gamecocks had to offer didn’t stop him from joining the defensive line of Gators assistant coach David Turner.

Going forward, Florida will look to add other dominant playmakers alongside Lyon on the defensive line, including the nation’s No. 2 SI99 player. Walter Nolen and Owasso (Okla.) Prospect high school Chris McClellan.

Below you can find Sports Illustrated All Americannewest addition screening report in blue and orange. Lyons is the No. 11 inside defensive lineman in the class of 2022 according to the SIAA ranking.

Jamari Lyons is an athletic and disruptive defensive end with a knack for sacks. He’s a fantastic football player and he reminded our team Chris Jones of how he uses his relative length to avoid his tackle. The mobility of the ankle is worthless, the short thinness is very impressive. Good vision and he’s a violent finisher. Long arms that he uses very well; he developed an excellent long arm movement. Disciplined with his technique. Crosses face down against blocks, although he could easily use his speed for the backdoor. Play with great leverage and keep your hands inside to control the ascender’s chest plate. Very high ceiling for Lyon with his best ball well in front of him.
