Former Florida state linebacker target withdraws from Florida Gators


A former linebacker target for Florida State is back on the market as EJ Lightsey has withdrawn from Florida.

Lightsey, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker from Fitzgerald, Ga., Chose Florida over Florida State, Georgia Tech, Auburn and Arkansas, among others.

Following the departure of Dan Mullen and the hiring of Billy Napiers, the Florida Gators saw a large chunk of their 2022 promotion withdraw from their pledges. It has been a brutal week for the Gainesville team on the recruiting trail.

The state of Florida recruited Lightsey quite heavily after offering him in late 2020. He attended camp last summer and has become one of the main targets for the Seminoles.

With the need for a linebacker and a change of coach with Randy Shannon likely moving as linebacker, Lightsey is one to watch as day one of signing approaches.

Lightsey is another athletic and multidimensional linebacker. He played late as well as a junior.
