Giannis Antetokounmpo walked around the press conference wearing goggles, holding a cigar and drinking straight from a bottle of champagne.
The Bucks star donned a shirt depicting longtime Bucks broadcaster Jim Paschke, who retired this year, before settling into the seat. His MVP trophy of the Finals sat on one side and the NBA Championship on the other.
Antetokounmpo kissed the taller of the two before telling his MVP material from the finale, “Don’t be jealous.”
“You want to have another intimate moment with…” a reporter asked before stopping.
Antetokounmpo carried Milwaukee past the Suns to win the franchise’s first NBA title in decades, and managed to have his own historic night in the process. He became the first player to total 40 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a playoff game since Shaquille O’Neal in 2001, by ESPN statistics and information. The forward finished the night with 50 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.
And he’s only the seventh player to have a 50-point game in the final. But the icing on the cake? The youngster from Athens, Greece was later named MVP of the final.
The “Greek Freak’s” press conference was filled with many happy and healthy moments. Some were touching, like the way he remembered Kobe Bryant challenging him, and others made reporters laugh, like talking to his trophies. He talked about winning an NBA championship the hard way by not joining a great team and everything.
Here are some of the best moments from the NBA champion’s press conference.
Antetokounmpo jokingly asked for an exchange.
“Who do I talk to for a trade? The 26-year-old asked with a big smile.
He became emotional as he talked about all his parents sacrificed and explained that he never thought he would experience a time like Tuesday night.
“I started playing basketball just to help my family, I tried to get them out of wrestling.”
He trolled PJ Tucker for his diamond Air Jordan 1s.
“This guy today he was wearing a pair of shoes for $ 250,000,” Antetokounmpo said. “He had real diamonds, I promise you.
He asked Tucker how much they cost before adding, “Basically a house on your feet? Let me get them.”
He’s NOT the cigar type.
And finally, Antetokounmpo reflected on his journey to the top.
“It should make every person, every child, anyone in the world to believe in their dreams,” he said. “No matter how you feel – if you feel down when things don’t seem to be going for you, you might not be successful in your career… – just believe in what you’re doing. Keep working.
“Don’t let anyone tell you what you can’t be and what you can’t do. “
