It’s been a busy week in the news, so we paused for a few minutes to gather recommendations for Seattle-area live music events to check out. KUOW’s Kim Malcolm contacted Michael Rietmulder, music writer and critic at the Seattle Times.
It’s one of my favorite annual events. It’s Seattle’s premier showcase for young artists, introducing the next generation to the music community.
This is the third and final showcase this year. There’s a pop artist named Emma Wang, a producer and multi-instrumentalist Sam Ashkenazy, and a songwriter and guitarist Trevor Eulau.
They used to have a competitive element, a gang battle style format, but they’ve since removed that, which is totally fine since it’s actually a strength-building event. community.
Former Sound Off alums, garage rockers Naked Giants are for my money one of the best live rock bands in town. I think one thing that’s cool about this show is that it’s a great doubleheader with a band called Enumclaw opening. They’re a young band from the Tacoma area that came out of nowhere last year and were kind of our area’s flagship band in 2021.
It’s a seven-piece band with a really vibrant horn section that harnesses the sounds of vintage soul music and rhythm and blues music, giving them a kind of forward twist. They headline Showbox, which for a band from Seattle is something of a rite of passage. They’re an amazing live band, and they’ve managed to keep the momentum going through these tough two years. It’s cool to see their careers continue the momentum they built before the pandemic.
