COLUMBIA, SC — Music is the heart of the South Carolina State Fairwith a variety of different acts performing live music each year.

Fair goers have enjoyed the sounds of musician Carl Brunson for 27 years. He says he made a name for himself playing country music.

“They seem to love it and that’s what I’ve been doing for 27 years here. 50s, 60s, 70s, kinda 80s,” Brunson said.

For musicians like Ashley and John Macklemore who have been playing at the fair for two years, they say they already feel part of the state fair family.

“We’re really excited to be here and people are so nice to us, they hang around and listen to our music and we’ve had people come back just to listen,” John said.

When it comes to describing their sound, they use the word eclectic as a summary. From country music to show tunes, this Florida-based band plays a bit of everything and says people have received it well.

“You never know when you’re playing here, who you’re going to hit or cheer on,” John said.

For Brunson, he plans to keep playing music at the fair for as long as he can.

“I love doing it and I don’t know how long I’m going to do it but I’ll do it until they scare me off,” Brunson said.
