Filmmaker Todd Haynes is teaming up with Oscar-winning actors Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore for his upcoming director ‘May December’.
Haynes, known for films such as “Carol” and “Far From Heaven,” will direct the new film from a script written by Samy Burch with the story of Burch and Alex Mechanik, Variety reported.
The family drama takes place 20 years after a notorious romance between Gracie Atherton-Yu and her husband, Joe, and as their twins are on the verge of graduating from high school. When Hollywood actress Elizabeth Berry spends time with her family to better understand Gracie, whom she will portray in a film, the family dynamic breaks down under the pressure of the outside gaze.
Joe, never having understood what happened in his youth, begins to face the reality of empty nest life at 36 years old. And as Elizabeth and Gracie study each other, the similarities and differences between the two women begin to fluctuate.
The film, set in Camden, Maine, has been described as an “ exploration of truth, storytelling, and the difficulties (or inability) to fully understand another person. ”
” May December ” will be produced by Jessica Elbaum and Will Ferrell of Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler of Killer Films, Portman and Sophie Mas under their MountainA banner. The film, which will be sold to international buyers in Cannes by Rocket Science, will begin shooting next year.
Portman recently wrapped up filming on the upcoming Marvel Studios film, “ Thor: Love and Thunder, ” for director Taika Waititi.
Moore will be the next star in Universal Pictures’ “Dear Evan Hansen” musical, which will be released later this year.
