The 2021 football season is fast approaching, and now is the time to take a look at the 10 defending players the Tigers will look to if they want to return to the college football playoffs this season.

Today we continue with No.9 on our list of players for the Tigers:

# 9: Trenton Simpson

The transfer of linebacker Mike Jones Jr. – one of two Clemson starters as of 2020 – creates an additional opportunity as Clemson’s nickel / sam linebacker, a position Trenton Simpson has grabbed during his true season of first year with his role of situational rusher on board. Despite playing fewer than 300 snaps and starting only three of his 12 games, Simpson finished tied for second on the team with 4.0 sacks.

2020: Produced an impressive freshman campaign as he was credited with 32 tackles (6.5 loss), 4.0 sacks and one forced fumble in 281 snaps in 12 games (three starts) … each to tied William Perry (4.0 in 1981), Ricky Sapp (4.0 in 2006) and Shaq Lawson (4.0 in 2013) for the third most sacks by a true freshman of all time in Clemson… made his college debut at Wake Forest, adding a tackle… recorded two tackles, including his first career sack against The Citadel… contributed six tackles to Georgia Tech… added two tackles against Syracuse… made three tackles with a sack and forced fumble against Boston College… scored seven tackles (0.5 loss) at Notre Dame’s No.4… scored his third sack of the season among his two tackles against Pitt… added four tackles (one for loss) at Virginia Tech… had two tackles for loss and one sack among his five tackles in the field game ACC championship against N ° 2 Notre-Dame.
