A title match against WWE Champion Bobby Lashley looks to be the next for Goldberg’s return.
Goldberg, 54, returned to WWE programming on Monday evening gross, appearing for the first time since the Royal Rumble in January. After Lashley defeated Keith Lee on Gross, Goldberg stepped into the ring and looked at Lashley. Goldberg mocked Lashley and said “I’m next.”
The showdown appears to set the stage for a WWE Championship match between Lashley and Goldberg next month Slam summer pay per view. Slam summer will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, August 21.
After more than 12 years away from the ring, Goldberg returned to WWE in 2016. He became one of pro wrestling’s biggest stars after making his WCW debut in the late 1990s and was previously with WWE from 2003 to 2004.
Goldberg has made nine appearances and two Universal Championship reigns since returning in 2016. His most recent match was a loss to Drew McIntyre at the Royal Rumble in January.
Goldberg was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.
Lashley has been a WWE Champion since winning the title from The Miz in March. The character of Lashley on WWE lineup has recently taken on a more focused and intense turn, including keeping the WWE Championship against Kofi Kingston convincingly on Sunday. Money in the bank PPV.
With the return of WWE on tour and the return of live crowds, Goldberg was WWE’s second big comeback. John Cena made his return to WWE at Money in the bank and kicked off the construction of a match against universal champion Roman Reigns at Slam summer.
